While smaller firms cater to the middle-class market, large national firms specialize in lower-income homeowners. Companies like superhouse, one of the biggest modular prefab firms, have a focus on lower-income or lower-middle-class homebuyers.

While manufacturers of prefab houses can build a house that is ready to occupy upon completion, the price will vary depending on the size and type of home you want. The average American home size has doubled since the 1960s, but the majority of older homes are still under two thousand square feet. By contrast, most newer homes are more than two thousand square feet. That's not a large difference, but it is important to remember that some manufacturers charge more for larger homes than others.

Many prefab houses are made with integrated systems and features. Those systems can be programmed to monitor air quality, bring in fresh air from outside and condition the air to the desired room temperature while the homeowner is away. Prefab house prices depend on the size of the home. Today's homes are larger than ever before, with the average American home doubled in size since the 1960s.
